A Thought For You

In case we find ourselves starting to believe all  the anti-American sentiment and negativity, we should remember the UK's Prime Minister Tony Blair's words in January 2003, during his address to British ambassadors in London, he said::

"...I sometimes think it is a good rule of thumb to ask of a country: are people trying to get into it or out of it? It's not a bad guide to what sort of country it is."

Only  two defining forces have ever offered to die for you:

1.  Jesus  Christ
2.  The American G. I.

One died for your soul, the other for your  freedom.

What Iran & Syria Want
Yahoo! News 2006/11/29
...It's clear that both Iran and Syria are trying to co-opt Iraq into their sphere on influence. Of course, the first thing Tehran and Damascus will try to get their new Iraqi friends to do is to pull the plug on the U.S. presence there. From Tehran's and Damascus' perspective, the fewer Americans in the region to check their plans for hegemony, the better.   But they also intend to use promises of peace and stability in Iraq as a bargaining chip in advancing other aspects of their agendas as well.   Iran wants to use Iraq as leverage to get the U.N. to back off pressuring Tehran over its nuclear (weapons) program. Tehran's message to the U.S. and other nuclear busybodies: If you want peace and stability in Iraq, don't push us on our nuclear program.   Syria will also try to leverage peace and stability in Iraq for an end to the U.N.'s investigation into the killing of former Lebanese Prime Minister Rafik Hariri. Damascus would also like a green light to re-establish its influence in Lebanon, and, perhaps, even try to get the U.S. to pressure Israel to reopen negotiations over the Golan Heights. ...

America, Not Keith Ellison, decides what book a congressman takes his oath on 2006/11/28
Keith Ellison, D-Minn., the first Muslim elected to the United States Congress, has announced that he will not take his oath of office on the Bible, but on the bible of Islam, the Koran.   He should not be allowed to do so -- not because of any American hostility to the Koran, but because the act undermines American civilization.   First, it is an act of hubris that perfectly exemplifies multiculturalist activism -- my culture trumps America's culture. What Ellison and his Muslim and leftist supporters are saying is that it is of no consequence what America holds as its holiest book; all that matters is what any individual holds to be his holiest book.   Forgive me, but America should not give a hoot what Keith Ellison's favorite book is. ...

Fine little country and all that, but to legitimize them as the kind of necessary middle man, so to speak for us to work things out in Iraq?   We're laying the groundwork for a regional conference. Turkey will send in its army to stop an independent Kurdistan, and Saudi Arabia, Egypt and the other Sunni states will be sucked in to fend off Shi'a Iran's hegemony. Al-Muhajir's Evil Presence
The New York Sun 2006/11/20 al-Muhajir's message is his belief that what he perceives as America's imminent military retreat from Iraq has brought an end to one of the "phases of jihad." This is an occasion for al-Muhajir to herald a new phase: the establishment of the caliphate. Al-Muhajir pledges allegiance to the hitherto unheard of " Abu Omar al-Baghdadi." Siniora's nasty little trick
Haaretz 2006/11/20
...Two weeks ago, Siniora played a small but nasty trick on Syria when he received the draft of the United Nations' proposal for the establishment of an international tribunal to try Rafik Hariri's assassins. ...Did Siniora know that the delay in presenting the document would cause the collapse of his government? Apparently, he did. He was well aware that Hezbollah (and Syria) had no intention of conceding on the issue of the creation of a national unity government in which Hezbollah would have a veto, and that is why he played his little trick.   Actually, Siniora was afraid that if he presented the proposal to his rivals, they would try to delay its approval and drag him and the government into lengthy discussions that might have ultimately taken all the punch out of the document, which he himself drafted together with UN representatives. Apparently, Siniora wanted at least to guarantee approval of the cabinet resolution regarding the international tribunal before political developments led to his government's collapse.   Now the dispute is a legal one. ...

'Innocent Citizens' Protecting Terrorists? - No Such Thing
Arutz Sheva A7 2006/11/19
The IDF called off a planned aerial strike on the home of a leading terrorist commander in northern Gaza last night, after hundreds of Arabs gathered around the building, defying Israel to bomb it. Chanting, "Death to America and death to Israel!" in scenes broadcast on Palestinian Authority television, many of the Arabs said they would be willing to give their lives in the struggle. However, their bravado was, unsurprisingly, not tested, as the IDF called off the strike because of the protest. "The attack plan was canceled because of the people there," an IDF spokesman said. "We differentiate between innocent people and terrorists."   Rabbi Zalman Melamed, however, says that there were no innocent people there to be differentiated. "We must do whatever we can to prevent hits on our citizens," he told Arutz-7 today. "From an ethical point of view, there would have been no problem to hit the building, even with all the people there. Their presence there was part of the war against us. From a practical/diplomatic standpoint, of course, we have to measure our steps carefully." ...

Bomb Iran - Diplomacy is doing nothing to stop the Iranian nuclear threat; a show of force is the only answer.
The Los Angeles Times 2006/11/19
WE MUST bomb Iran.   It has been four years since that country's secret nuclear program was brought to light, and the path of diplomacy and sanctions has led nowhere. ...This would not end Iran's weapons program, but it would certainly delay it.   What should be the timing of such an attack? If we did it next year, that would give time for U.N. diplomacy to further reveal its bankruptcy yet would come before Iran will have a bomb in hand (and also before our own presidential campaign). In time, if Tehran persisted, we might have to do it again.   Can President Bush take such action after being humiliated in the congressional elections and with the Iraq war having grown so unpopular? Bush has said that history's judgment on his conduct of the war against terror is more important than the polls. If Ahmadinejad gets his finger on a nuclear trigger, everything Bush has done will be rendered hollow. We will be a lot less safe than we were when Bush took office.   Finally, wouldn't such a U.S. air attack on Iran inflame global anti-Americanism? Wouldn't Iran retaliate in Iraq or by terrorism? Yes, probably. That is the price we would pay. But the alternative is worse. ...

Minister Lieberman: Kill Hamas Leadership, Deal With Jordan
Arutz Sheva 2006/11/18
Speaking with Israel Radio Saturday, Lieberman outlined his vision for the steps Israel must take. He asserted that the Palestinian Authority’s Arabs are not interested in setting up a state, but in destroying Israel "in the service of international Jihad.” Lieberman said that to ensure its survival, Israel must reject all past agreements and current interim proposals, from the failed Oslo Accords to the unimplemented US Road Map to Peace.   "Continued commitment to Oslo and to the Road Map will lead us to another round of conflict - a much bloodier round,” he said. “And in the end we will be in an even worse dead-end position that threatens our very existence in the future."   Lieberman dismissed efforts to empower Fatah chief Mahmoud Abbas (Abu Mazen), whose group was trounced by the Islamist Hamas in the PA’s parliamentary elections. The newly appointed Minister of Strategic Threats said Israel should instead develop closer coordination with the Hashemite rulers of Jordan regarding administrating the Arab areas of Judea and Samaria.   “We have always targeted the wrong places and taken care not to speak with the right people. We are seeking a reliable partner and that only exists in Jordan right now. ...

the President effectively decided not to win the war in Iraq. This is the case because Iraq is merely one front in a regional war. The US cannot win the regional war while limiting its operations to playing defense on one front.   Today Israel stands alone against the Palestinians. More disturbingly, the responsibility for preventing Iran from achieving nuclear capabilities has moved conclusively from Washington to Jerusalem.   But Olmert, who spent his last visit in the US capital trying to convince the Americans to support his plan to surrender Judea and Samaria to Hamas, is not a strong leader. He is a weak leader. The new wind blowing out of Washington will easily cast him asunder. ...

FEATURE-Jordan dynasty bolsters religious role in Jerusalem
Reuters 2006/11/8
Jordan's King Abdullah watched intently during a presentation of plans for the construction of a new minaret near the Dome of the Rock in Jerusalem.   He was told the minaret -- the first structure to be built in over 600 years at Islam's third holiest shrine -- would feature the engraving of a seven-point Hashemite star, like the one on the kingdom's flag.
"The preservation of Islamic sanctities is a responsibility that I have been bequeathed and I will continue to shoulder in the footsteps of my forefathers," the king told senior clerics, who also attended the presentation in the Jordanian capital. ...Some analysts say King Abdullah, whose family says it is descended from the Prophet Mohammad, also wants to assert his Islamic credentials in a period of rising radicalism on Jordan's borders with the Palestinians to the west and Iraq to the east. ..."This shows that King Abdullah is also sending not just a message about religious custodianship but that as Hashemites they will not abandon their role in ending Jerusalem's occupation," said Adnan Abu Oudeh, a former palace adviser. ...Israel has already given assurances it will not make a fuss over the minaret ...

It appears that Israel, in view of the most difficult circumstances surrounding them, have accepted the Hashemite king's dominance over temple mount, and accept him as their 'best political bet', so to speak, from the radicalism that threatens their very existence, and which he appears to be attempting to resist in his own kingdom, as well as throughout the greater middle east and the Islamic world at large.

The Region: Meet 'national Islamism'
The Jerusalem Post 2006/11/6
In July 2006, Muhammad Abd al-Sattar, a deputy minister in Syria's government, made a very strange statement on that country's state-controlled television. Jihad, he said, is the duty of every Muslim, Arab and Christian in order to kill the Jews.   But wait a minute. Why did Sattar say Muslim, Arab and Christian? After all, jihad is an Islamic religious notion. Why should Christians wage Jihad? And the word Arab here means the non-Muslim, non-Christian Alawites who rule Syria and pretend to be Muslims.   What's happening here is a new ideology, the doctrine of Hamas, Hizbullah, Syria; and the Iraqi insurgents, behind what Syrian President Bashar Assad calls the "resistance" philosophy.   It is the blend of two radical world views: Islamism and Arab nationalism. Call it National Islamism. The last time there was such a synthesis it brought together right-wing nationalism and left-wing populist socialism. The doctrine called itself, appropriately enough, National Socialism. It is best known by the German version of those two words, Nazism for short. ...

No Third Way in Iraq
American Enterprise Institute 2006/11/6
"Redeployment" Will Not "Incentivize" the Iraqi Military. It Will Lead to Its Collapse. ...The United States has two options in Iraq: stay and try to win, or cut, run, and lose. Attempts to chart a middle course--partial withdrawal or redeployment, accelerated hand-over to the Iraqis, political deals with Syria or Iran--ignore the realities of the military situation. The real choice we face is this: Is it better to accept defeat than to endure the pain of trying to succeed?   The U.S. military, under the stewardship of CENTCOM Commander General John Abizaid, has worked hard from the outset to avoid creating an Iraqi military that is dependent upon the continued presence of U.S. forces. The fear of such dependency is one of the pillars that has supported U.S. strategy from the outset. In order to avoid it, the U.S. military has never fully committed to conducting coherent and comprehensive counterinsurgency operations on its own, preferring to wait until the Iraqis are able to undertake them. We are still waiting, and the insurgency is strengthening its organization and inciting chaos through mass murder and sectarian violence.   The Iraqi military, unfortunately, is still a work in progress. ...

Higher than the Al-Aqsa Mosque
Haaretz 2006/11/1
...About 10 years after the construction of the Al-Marwani Mosque, the southeastern corner of the Temple Mount is again abuzz with provocative plans. A few weeks ago, to Israel's dissatisfaction,
Jordan's King Abdullah announced the construction of a fifth minaret in the Temple Mount area. The minaret is to be named after King Hussein, Abdullah's father. One of the places designated for the minaret is the empty, southeastern corner of the Temple Mount, above the mosque in Solomon's Stables. Abdullah even declared a competition for the best minaret design. ...Perhaps this is why now, of all times, MK Uri Ariel (National Union-National Religious Party) is presenting a plan of his own for building a synagogue on the Temple Mount. He is also discussing the southeastern corner of the Mount, and this is apparently no coincidence. Ariel is presently looking for an architect, and he plans to submit the plan for the approval of the Jerusalem Municipality's planning committee - not that it has a chance. However, it will cause a commotion. "Such an act will repair a historical injustice much more than did the transfer to Israel of the remains of Herzl's children," says Ariel. "Throughout the generations we were expelled from the site. This is an opportunity for the Muslim world to prove that it is sufficiently tolerant to contain beliefs that differ from its own." ...In light of this, there is ferment in the Temple Mount movements; Ariel and his proposal are only the tip of the iceberg. Gershon Solomon of the Temple Mount Faithful, for example, is planning a campaign against the Western Wall, which he says diverts attention from the "real thing" - the Temple Mount - to which the Western Wall is only an entrance hall, at most. "The Western Wall is not a vestige of the Temple, as people tend mistakenly to believe, but the western support wall of the compound," ...
This is a somewhat lengthy article, but gives good background as to what is presently going on to bring about the re-establishment of the Jewish Temple on Temple Mount.

Jordanian prince says cartoon crisis was sign of instability in Muslim world
International Herald Tribune 2006/11/1
Jordan's one-time heir to the throne said Wednesday the massive protests earlier this year against the Prophet Muhammad cartoons were probably fueled by instability and populism in the Muslim world.   "Emotions were running high for real or elusive reasons," Prince Hassan, the uncle of Jordan's King Abdullah II, said. "The sadness is we have to recognize that from Nigeria to Bangladesh, there is a growing populist movement." ..."It may not have anything to do with you at the end of the day," he told Danish reporters. "It may have more to do with the fact there are basic symptoms of instability, lack of self-confidence, hunger, injustice, possibly caused by our own governments in terms of the Arab region and the Muslim countries." ...
It appears that what the prince is saying is that the Muslim world is as sheep with no shepherd to bring them to a place of stability.  Now who better to do that than King Abdullah II The Hashemite King of Jordan, his benevolent nephew.  Could it be that the prince is putting in a subtle plug for the king to be the next Caliph to lead all Muslims everywhere?  We wait and we watch.

...The world shapers are neither elite nor liberal, but they are united in a common purpose. There should be an accurate and understandable term to define their goals and identify the promoters and participants.   Fortunately there is no need to make up a term or coin a word. That was done more than a century and one half ago by Auguste Comte. Comte (1798-1857) was a French mathematician/philosopher who devoted his entire intellectual life to developing plans for a system of world unity and control. He called his world system a SOCIOCRACY. Those who supported his philosophy or worked with him to promote controlled unity he called SOCIOCRATS. ...Sociocracy has its own religion which Comte called SOCIOLATRY, POSITIVISM, or the RELIGION OF HUMANITY. The object of worship is SOCIETY conceived of as a collective female entity. In SOCIOLATRY, and religions based on sociolatry, there is but one sin--separation. Separation is the only sin.   Comte declared that studying social behavior in order to combine, classify, claim, and control life on earth was to become a science which he called SOCIOLOGY or SOCIAL SCIENCE. Comte considered sociology to be necessary as the systematic base for sociocracy and sociolatry. According to his planning SOCIOLOGISTS were gradually to become the intellectual monitors, political planners, economic regulators, spiritual leaders, and moral teachers of a sociocratic world system. ...

How British Governments have betrayed the Kurds 1919-2006 2006/11/1
...The Tony Blair regime is in its final months. Home Secretary John Reid is positioning himself to continue Blair's work. The same Labour Government that launched a war in 2003 against Iraq to "protect the Kurds" has now declared another war: on Iraqi Kurdish asylum seekers in this country.

Jumblatt: International tribunal can force Syria to change its behavior
The Daily Star 2006/11/1
An international tribunal might be the only way to deter dictatorships in the region from further assassinations and might lead to a change of behavior of the Syrian regime, according to Chouf MP Walid Jumblatt. Jumblatt's comments came Tuesday during a panel discussion at the Woodrow Wilson Center as part of the Druze leader's visit to the US.   The Chouf MP held talks with Vice President Dick Cheney and Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice, among other US officials, on Monday.   "The tribunal could change the behavior, a term used [in Washington], cause deterrence ... Without it, the Syrian regime won't leave us alone," he said. ...

Israel's Peres "sceptical" about UK's Syria overtures
Reuters 2006/11/1
..."If you ask me, I am sceptical. Not because of Britain but because of Syria. They are running a double policy. On the one hand they are hosting the head of the Hamas organisation and they are helping Hezbollah...while on the other they talk about peace," Peres told reporters at a briefing in London.   "They don't need to make peace with the Europeans, they need to make peace with us. We support engagement by the Quartet. I think it will be very hard to have any negotiations without American participation," Peres added. ...

John Kerry's 35 Year History of Contempt for the US Military 2006/11/1
In a speech at Pasadena City College that was “an all star line up of the Democratic Party” - primarily a campaign stop to get students to vote for Phil Angelidies who is running against Governor Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger, Kerry seems to have in one speech focused national attention on the difference between Republicans and Democrats. . He told the students
“You know, education, if you make the most of it, you study hard, you do your homework and you make an effort to be smart, you can do well. If you don’t, you get stuck in Iraq.”
I’m not sure what that might have to do with getting Angelidies elected, but
it probably reminded a few other people besides me of techniques Kerry has used for 35 years to undermine and discredit the men in our armed forces.
Republicans quickly responded to Kerry’s snide remarks about those in the military. At White House Press Conference yesterday a reporter asked Tony Snow about Kerry’s comment.
Snow said: “It sort of fits a pattern. You may recall that last year Senator Kerry—on CBS’s “Face the Nation”—accused U.S. soldiers of terrorizing kids and children in Iraq; and recently also described troop concentrations in Baghdad as “having failed miserably.”
Sen. John McCain, often called a friend of John Kerry, said, “The suggestion that only the least educated Americans would agree to serve in the military and fight in Iraq is an insult to every soldier serving in combat today.”
Later in the day,
President Bush said: “The senator’s suggestion that the men and women of our military are somehow uneducated is insulting and shameful. The men and women who serve in our all-volunteer armed forces are plenty smart and are serving because they are patriots—and Senator Kerry owes them an apology.” ...
I say Kerry should apologize unequivocally, shut his mouth, go home and stay there.

US: Syria, Iran planning to topple Lebanese gov't
yNetNews 2006/11/1
The White House charged Wednesday that "mounting evidence" shows Syria and Iran are joining with Hizbullah in plans to topple the Lebanese government.   In an unusually strong statement, press secretary Tony Snow said any attempt to manufacture demonstrations or use violence or physical threats against Lebanese leaders would be a clear violation of Lebanon's sovereignty and of three UN Security Council resolutions. ...

Blair plans to reach out to Damascus
Guardian Unlimited 2006/11/1
...Mr Sheinwald's visit had occurred with the knowledge of the US.   The United States has not had an ambassador in Syria since recalling its envoy early last year following the assassination of former Lebanese Prime Minister Rafik Hariri - a killing that the UN says implicates top Syrian and Lebanese security officials.   The prime minister's spokesman guided reporters away from suggestions that the discussions had centered on the role Syria might play in preventing the partition of Iraq, or easing an early exit for British troops.   Nevertheless, the Syrian foreign minister is due to visit Baghdad later this month, his first visit since the fall of Saddam Hussein in 2003.   Britain has never broken off diplomatic relations with Syria, but the visit of Mr Sheinwald, an old foreign office hand, to Damascus suggests Britain recognises its pivotal role, and even that Mr Blair is considering travelling Syria in the next few weeks. ...

Iraq's bloody destiny
Asia Times Online 2006/11/1
...Another 23 beheaded Iraqis were discovered throughout Iraq. Beheading has become common since Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki came to power in May. Meanwhile, suspected Sunni militias slaughtered 23 policemen, showing that radicals in the Sunni community are still bent on fighting anyone who supports or works with the post-Saddam Hussein regime. ...When post-Saddam options were being considered in 2002, this correspondent floated the idea that
the restoration of the monarchy (1932-1958) would be the best possible option for Iraq. The monarchy was strong. It was pro-Western, but placed Iraqi interests - not those of Saudi Arabia, Iran or the US - first.   It was democratic - in comparison with post-1958 Iraq - and it was just: it had a proper legal system that ensured justice for all Iraqis. Although the regime was ruled by Sunnis, all Iraqis could boast a proper judiciary that ensured equality and justice for Shi'ites, Sunnis and Kurds. ...

The President's Saudi Moment
The Philadelphia Jewish Voice 2006/11/1
...the Saudis, they need America more than ever as well.   As Woodward tells the story, the Saudis have repeatedly told Bush that they (like the Jordanians, Egyptians and other moderate Arab regimes) are in a precarious position these days. During the period covered by Woodward, the Palestinian intifada was raging and Arabs worldwide were enraged by the means Israel was using to suppress it. The Saudis, and the others, were under heavy pressure from the Arab street to take a stronger stand against Israel. In Egypt and Jordan, the peace treaties with Israel – so vital to Israel’s security – became increasingly unpopular with the masses who view them as having done nothing for the Arabs while strengthening Israel’s position. ...
